Over 100 SGM Crafting Volunteers make blankets, hats, outfits, gowns, bracelets, canvases, etc. These volunteers also cut and sew bear shells, then partner with HUNDREDS of generous people every year to stuff and complete the SGM Comfort Bears. So many helping hands, so many hearts, and so much love is poured into every item given to the families we serve at SGM. Whether giving a mother a Comfort Bear to hold as she grieves the loss of her baby, or creating clothing for babies born at any age or gestation, SGM Crafters bless families with tangible evidence that their babies lived and their babies matter. If you have the gift of creating beauty with your hands through various crafting abilities, please prayerfully consider joining our team.
If you are interested in joining the SGM Crafter Team, please fill our our Volunteer Application Form here.

Comfort Bears
Comfort Bears fill the arms of grieving parents and siblings. They are often used to represent a baby in heaven in family photos. They are held as mothers miss their precious children, and siblings act out missing their brother or sister by playing with and dressing their Comfort Bears. We receive photos sometimes years after a family experiences the loss of a baby, showing just what their Comfort Bears mean to them. Our dedicated Comfort Bear Team cuts, sews, stuffs, and finishes about 300 Comfort Bears every year! Sign up on our Volunteer Application form linked above and Jennifer will connect with you to send you a starter pack of fabric and a pattern.
Churches, schools, moms groups, and even an amazing fraternity from BGSU, Alpha Sigma Phi gather to stuff and sew Comfort Bears!
Crocheted Items Wrap Our Babies in Love
Our incredible crochet team pours hours of their hearts, time, and talents into creating items that wrap our SGM Babies in love and dignity. There aren’t words to describe what it means to a mother, father, and grandparents to have something beautiful to dress their baby in. Marlene Carpenter leads our crochet team. She has lovingly created hundreds of gowns, wraps, and hats over the many years she has faithfully served with Sufficient Grace Ministries. Her team has grown into a small army of dedicated servant-hearts, who now produce over 1,000 crocheted items for SGM families! Volunteer Coordinator, Jennifer Van Vorhis can get you connected with Marlene and any crochet patterns you may need to get started. *Please note: We keep the colors soft and modern. We use baby-friendly pastels, white, and gray. Please avoid browns, bright oranges, dark greens, and bright yellows.
Burial Gowns and Jewelry-Making
SGM does have a few volunteers creating beautiful burial gowns and wraps for babies out of donated wedding gowns, but we need MORE willing hearts to serve in this area. We are currently in need of seamstresses as stated below. We also offer mommy and baby bracelets if you are interested in creating jewelry keepsakes for our SGM families. Photos coming soon!
